Multipurpose distribution, switching and control units for areas at risk of dust explosions

The multipurpose control boxes (categories 3 G and 3 D) are designed for Zone 21 and 22 areas at risk of dust explosions to EN 50281-1-1. Non-explosionproof electrical components are installed inside these multipurpose distribution, switching and control units. But components and devices installed in the outer envelope of the enclosure must possess an EC Type Examination Certificate for category 2 D or 3 D. It is especially important to make sure that the devices in the enclosure's outer envelope meet the static electricity requirements. In contrast to the requirements for equipment for areas at risk of gas explosions, the minimum degree of protection is IP 65.
The installation of terminals and components in the explosion-proof distribution, switching and control units is restricted in such a way that the surface temperatures of the box remain in compliance with the respective temperature class in spite of the internal dissipation power. In the case of control boxes protected against dust explosions, the hottest point on the external surfaces of the enclosure is checked.
